Pros

They have some genuinely nice and hard-working people at the store level. Most managers are fair and easy to work for, but that is really a store by store factor. Profit Sharing is decent and certainly comparable to other similar companies.

Cons

Promotion and advancement opportunities have dried up currently...they are cutting back a lot. Right now, upper management is in disarray and very frantic. Corporate has little insight as to what is happening at the store level. Legal and company policies are rarely enforced with any consistency. Scheduling for assistant managers doesn't allow for any work/life balance...unless of course one has no life outside of Walgreens. In management, you are married to the company and by married, I mean to say that you will be spending all of your nights, weekends, and holidays with Walgreens. Company morale (store level especially) is at an ALL TIME LOW. Many employees simply feel "stuck" in position because of current market status. New corporate strategies and directives have gone too far away from 4 way test and other founding principles that have made the company so successful.

Pros

I worked in 2 stores-one was top 2 or 3 in the district in sales and the other was a new store that I opened and it was slow (boring). I enjoyed the people at both stores. Had good managers to work with with the exception of an exa at the 1st. Most customers at both stores were friendly and I enjoyed working with them and the staff.

Cons

Cutbacks, cutbacks, cutbacks--ugh. Store hours are being CHOPPED. It's one thing to be competitive and another to simply invite thieves who will easily rob you blind due to the lack of help anymore. Retail is what it is--seasonal hours can suck. Scheduling up and down destroying your natural biorythms (working nights then getting up early and doing that day shift--it happens often here!). Pay is just "ok". The Management growth track is now way too long to get your own store. Many, many mgts were let go last year in the restructuring and the exa classes (at least in my area have been cut back drastically). I could rant quite a bit--was glad when I left.

Pros

The company encourages feedback from the employees. I dont know where it goes from there, but I guess at least the thought counts.

Cons

I think upper management is a little out of touch on the day to day workings within the store. They tend to give us tasks that either do not make sense or are nearly impossible.
