Pros

There is plenty of room to move up in the company, and a wealth of information regarding the profession. The pay is decent for a retail pharmacy, but you do earn it.

Cons

Pretty much all the stores are busy, and the amount of work you'll do is much higher than most other retail stores.

Pros

I have worked in other retail chains before and Walgreens does pay above average. Good profit sharing plan, 10% discount on stock purchases. Part timers get holiday pay also. If you hang in there you can promote to store manager.

Cons

Starting pay for a store manager isn't that great. Just a few more $k above and EXA. Bonuses can be large (7k to 45k). They are open on ALL holidays. A 24hr store is open 24/7 ALL year. Hard to balance work and life. As an mgt or an EXA you can get transfered anywhere without any say-so. If a store is down the street from you, it is too close. You will get transfered 40 miles away. I am told that this is dew to exposing assistant mgrs to different management styles. Thats fine, but when 2 EXAs got promoted last year they had only worked in ONE store. Hmmmm.... And, it seems that only EXAs with degrees are getting promoted. Thats fine too, but Walgreens should have some form of tution reimbursement plan.

Pros

The pay. While still in college, I was able to do a summer internship as a retail management store intern. I was making 14/hour, which is pretty good. I definitely had to do a lot of work, hard work, but the pay made it bearable. Also, the experience. Very few places are willing to give you a CHANCE at working at a manager position, with no experience. Walgreens did that and I appreciate it.

Cons

The biggest downside was the level of work. I was worked so hard and there is really no way to finish all the work given in a 40 hour work week. Thus working overtime. BUT, the company is so anti-overtime, I actually had to work a lot of "off the clock hours." I'm a hard worker, but it really wore me out. Also, as for the general health of the company, I don't think, compared to CVS, it is a very healthy company. But they seem to take care of their people better than CVS. Only time will tell if they survive the level of competition.
