Pros

Work life balance was great vs other retailers. Minimum weekends. Consistency in expectations of knowing what each day was going to bring.

Cons

Change and devaluation of the store manager role through restructuring. Losing the entrepreneur spirit to shift to a stale same store approach.

Pros

Relatively high entry level wage for those with no experience Offers decent benefits including paid time off that is accrued hourly (though, good luck using it)

Cons

Treated like a child even when you are a top performer in your department (no talking to coworkers, bathroom breaks are often timed by management, no use of personal cell phone at all) Management seems to purposely discourage building relationships with coworkers All activity is strictly monitored. You must report every time you leave your desk. You are expected to never leave your desk Excessively strict "point system" for tardiness and absences (you are punished if you are 4 minutes late for your shift even once) Pointless daily productivity tracking (that can easily be forged, for those who are smart enough) - but your raises depend on it Expected to work 40 hour weeks PLUS mandatory overtime Not flexible with time off (even small adjustments like leaving early to pick up kids, doctor appointments, etc) Extremely negative work environment. Employees are often complaining about the job AND each other. There is no incentive to "call out" other employees for their mistakes, but people do it frequently and not constructively Very high employee turnover rate due to terrible working conditions Very sedentary job - there is virtually 0 movement from your chair during a typical day. Many employees are obese
