Pros

Salary, benefits all at the top of the pharmacist job market. Cutting edge retail practice environment with MTM, vaccinations, and workflow. The new Well-Experience stores are the near-future of retail pharmacy.

Cons

Suits and bean counters are trying to override medical practice and enforce their micromanagement upon individual pharmacies with negative effect - overworked, overstressed pharmacists make more mistakes at busy stores, and have their attention pulled too thin by corporate initiatives to basically do phone solicitation. There's no excuse for treating a Doctor of Pharmacy like a marketing call center associate. A culture of fear of making mistakes and losing one's job exists, rather than a culture of working hard to earn rewards. Managers are overworked, and higher turnover than staff pharmacists.

Pros

The pay rate, health insurance, and PTO policy are comparable to what is offered by other retail pharmacy employers. The other employees and the customers are the main reason I like working for Walgreens. Everyone works together as a team and management is somewhat supportive.

Cons

The number of tasks that have been added to an already stressful job as a pharmacist has become ridiculous. The amount of technician help that is allowed is preposterous in a pharmacy that processes 350+ prescriptions per day, along with giving various immunizations, providing MTM, and making the ridiculous number of annoying patient phone calls. This company has ignored the potential for serious mistakes to be made on a daily basis just for the sake of "the numbers". Walgreens has developed a fast food mentality. More paperwork, redundant phone calls, less support help and added tasks have made it impossible to give good customer service and still feel like a you're doing your job as a healthcare professional.

Pros

Walgreens provides many ways to advance your career with them, be it to a management position or the pharmacy route. The benefits you become eligible for with certain milestones are clearly outlined and a nice addition to an hourly salary. They have an open door policy that they make sure employees know about. If there is an issue with another employee or management, one has the ability to report it without having to worry about repercussions from their report.

Cons

Generally there are few people working in the actual store part of Walgreens unless it is a holiday or a lot of traffic is expected. Some job performance goals are unrealistic given the amount of time one has in their shift and the amount of days scheduled in a week. Suggestive selling bothers me as well; many people going to Walgreens aren't interested in candy as they are barely meeting their monthly budgets as is, or they are dieting, allergic, or are already buying candy. There are times I've bought candy from myself, having another employee ring me up with me signed in to the register, to avoid having zero suggestive sells during a shift.
