Pros

I started as a Deli Associate in 2008. Made the leap to Asset Protection Associate in 2009. In 2011 was promoted to Asset Protection Manager!!

Cons

After most of my APA time was spent without an APM and doing the the majority of the work, and working under direct Supervisors who had no idea how to do my job let alone their own...I was promoted to APM. I started off with a bang as APM, 4 Internals closed in 2 months one of which being over $6,000 and in 4 months 65 external apprehensions while training brand new APA's. Then when my family and I needed to move to another state suddenly to take care of family, was WalMart there for me?? No... I couldn't find an open Management position and because I had been in a salary position for so many pay periods a transfer to another store was put in as a demotion and my pay was $5 an hour less. The reasoning I got, "well this is just how it works and we have policies to follow. If you can't find an open Manager spot then you can take a lower position, stay there six months and work your way back up"??????????????????????!! Notice I said that I had to find a position?? Then after leaving and expecting my bonus to drop in 2 weeks later... I got half of the $4000 I was supposed to recieve and the run around every since as to why or where the rest is. :(

Pros

Wal-Mart is a great store to work for because there is so many opportunities for career advancement. I've been an APA for about 4 months and I'm already on the fast track to becoming an APM. If you have experience in the field and at least some form of a college education you can really grow.

Cons

Really the only downside for me is that I am the only APA in my store so I get stuck dealing with everything and I always have to work nights and weekends because I have no one to switch off with.
