Pros

Discount card to use at all Walmart stores Starting wages are higher that Californias minimum wage. Opportunities for growth within Walmart or other areas. College tuition is paid. 401(K) Health insurance , Vision and perhaps dental.

Cons

Working the over night (ON) shift has many is not for all. People don’t last because working from 11p.m.-8a.m. is not the most desired time slot. Vacation days off are difficult to obtain. Holidays are extremely difficult to get off. 4 or more call outs that you can’t cover with your Protected paid time off will get you terminated. Even if you have COVID-19 you have to cover it with your PPTO. If your shift doesn’t have enough people working that day, work is still expected to be completed. The shift leaders will do their best to help but with the lack of employees, they will be riding your team to complete the work. There is no overtime. In fact, the shift leaders will get a write up for a non salary employee working over time. No more quarterly bonuses. Equipment needs to be plentiful for all employees and not reserved to “trained” employees.

Pros

Size and scope of the enterprise means that whatever your niche is, there is likely a team or product that wants your specialization. Living near the corporate headquarters is definitely a selling point. Northwest Arkansas was amazing when I first started and has only kept getting better.

Cons

It's a retailer not an IT company. It's got that baked into its bones and it shows sometimes with the decision/procurement process. Tech debt is pretty high in some areas and often it won't be addressed due to penny wise, pound foolish thinking. Northwest Arkansas and by proxy the Bentonville campus is liberal for the South but conservative for the tech industry standards. Sometimes people are waaaaayyyyy out of step with that reality and either want the Good Old Boy days to come back or can't understand why their deeply held views are labelled as being Social Justice Warrior-esque.
