Pros

Walmart does offer everything you could wish for in an employer. Except the pay could be better. Flexible scheduling for those who are in school, better benefits that offered by most employers. The ability to change jobs or even careers and still remain at Walmart. Walmart is a whole world inside of itself. It is much more than just retail.

Cons

Basically the old Walmart had everything you could have wished for and it was indeed back then a very good company for its employees. The new Walmart is a symbol of its former self that is quickly losing its substance. The company is no longer what is was under Sam Walton. The pay and benefits are being scaled back. New hires are not getting the same deal as those hired in years past. The scheduling is horrible. There is no consideration for a work-life balance. It is all about Walmart and what is best for the company. You have to schedule everything around an ever changing, revolving schedule. There is no regularity to it.

Pros

-Opportunity for advancement -Fantastic Management team -Clearly told what your job consists of -Perfect for students, or anyone looking for flexible scheduling

Cons

-Low wages in comparison to other similar positions -Not enough hours -Always having to defend that just because you work at Walmart, you're not a complete idiot. -Rude/arrogant customers that walk all over you due to the fact that your work is "less meaningful" than theirs.

Pros

Awesome co-workers Friendly managers(most of the time) Decent pay for an entry level job You can gain a lot of retail experience, from working in other departments. Great resume builder when you can list experience. Rewarding to help customers find what they want if you love working with people.

Cons

Managers often tell you about 8 different things to get done at the same time. No cross communication or coordination sometimes it seems like. Often unrealistic expectations of associates, deadlines to get things done as well as taking care of customers can often be stressful. Getting pulled to other departments when you have too much to get done in your department is stressful as well, some areas are paid more than you and you are doing their work. Almost impossible to get Full-Time unless you're working nights or an unloader. Part time hours are 33 a week, no benefits.
