Pros

There are several good reasons for working for the World Bank: -great institutional goals with major focus on development and poverty reduction -smart and talented colleagues in a multicultural environment -joining missions to developing/emerging countries is a really fulfilling experience -potential for a diverse work program

Cons

Given the institution's size, decision making can be slow. If you are hired as a consultant, it may take long time until you become a regular staff member.

Pros

In general, colleagues are hardworking, dedicated to their jobs and committed to changing the world for the better. The work environment is comfortable.

Cons

As with most large organizations, you have to deal with the bureaucracy from time to time (though not as bad as the U.S. Government). Hierarchy sometimes gets in the way of innovative ideas from junior staff. There are a large number of contractors, who cannot advance and do not receive the same benefits as direct hire staff (general benefits package, parking, daycare).
