Pros

Informative mentoring lectures by senior researchers are a great way to dive into quantitative finance, even for those without any background in it. Plenty to learn from the additional leaning resources (research papers, blog links etc.) provided to the consultants. A decent stipend plus a healthy performance based bonus is an added incentive to provide better results. Consultant work during their own free time, hence have complete control over work - life balance.

Cons

There is very little interaction between the strategy developers (consultants) and the implementers (asset managers). There is a periodic overdose of lectures by senior researchers followed by extended periods of inactivity.
