Pros

Xerox was open to broadening skills by moving between areas within the technical departments. Also open to educating their employees both internally and externally (local colleges). Compensation was OK, benefits were continued to be cut back during my tenure. Xerox allowed employees to get time off when needed for personal reasons.

Cons

Too much emphasis on EEO. Got to the point where EEO promotions superceded promotions for performance. That's based upon several personal experiences where ratings were superior but less accomplished performers were rewarded better. Politics were very pervasive across many areas. Frequently outsourced work when it could have/should have been done internally. People were better qualified and it frequently cost much more, especially when long term service contracts were inmplemented to support outsourced work. And I'm not talking about the EDS contract

Pros

Great benefits and low stress. There are locations everywhere and the company is well-managed from a fiscal and HR porint of view. Also, they are stable and well-respected -- you will be invited into many more deals and opportunities than are available at most companies. There is a strong and consistent emphasis on quality and ethics throughout the company.

Cons

Ponderous progress, HUGE bueracracy, and weak strategy and vision. There are many many people who are "retired in place", meaning that they have little incentive to change things, to innovate, or to make new things happen. And of those folks, most are most interested in gaurding their retirements and planning their vacations.
