I applied for a position at Aldi online and received an email a week later asking me to come in for a group interview.
The group interview situation was the strangest and most inefficient that I've ever attended. There were 9 of us in a room with the area manager. We all answered a set of questions - name, work history, study history, store preference, availability and why we want to work for Aldi.
Then the area manager told us about the job and proceeded to ask if we had any questions. There were a few people who dominated the questions - mainly the older people. The younger candidates did not get to have a say.
I don't know how the candidates for the next step were chosen. I didn't get through to the one on one interviews, and I wish they gave us feedback. I asked questions, maintained eye contact and tried to contribute to the conversation despite there being a lack of conversation. I also have 6 years of supermarket experience that I was not able to highlight because the group interview was barely an interview.
