I applied online and within a few hours, I got an email inviting me to schedule a 'Magic Assessment' day at the store I applied to. There was only one date and time I could schedule so I booked that one.
I turned up and there were 8 of us in total. We had to fill in some forms saying which departments we preferred to work in and what hours we could work. We were then put in pairs and told to introduce our partner. The pairs were combined to form teams of 4 and we had to build a bridge using marshmallows and spaghetti in our teams. Both teams failed to build a free-standing bridge in the 15 minutes given but I guess they were observing our participation in the team.
We were then taken onto the shop floor for about 35 minutes, even though the email inviting me to the magic day said this would take place in a second session if we were successful in the 'team-building' exercise. On the shop floor, we all basically tidied the shelves and removed empty cardboard packaging. Then, we were told to wait in the staff canteen while they called each of us in alone for a one-to-one interview. I was the last one to be interviewed so I had to wait about 45 minutes past the time this session was supposed to end.
In the 'interview' I was only asked about what hours I could work and what work I had done previously. I was told that I would be called within a few days if I was successful to offer me a job.
6 days went by and I then received an email saying 'Thank you for accepting our job offer. We now need your references' and then I received a voicemail inviting me to an induction.
There were 6 of us at the induction and we read and signed a bunch of forms, watched videos and had a tour of the store. I was told I should have received an email with my job offer which should have had my hours and department on it like everyone else did but mine was probably being a bit slow and should be on its way. At the induction, I was told my manager was going to call me to let me know when to start (although I had to leave town for 2 weeks which I told them at the induction and they said that's fine).
A week after the induction, I received my job offer email.
A week later, I returned and waited 2 days for my manager to call me but nothing so I decided to call up and was told to come in the next day in the morning even though my contract said I was supposed to start during the afternoon on this day.
During my first shift, I was told to come in during the morning 3 days a week despite my contract being afternoons and 4 days a week.
