I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AT&T (Atwater, CA) in Oct 2010
Interview
They first called me in to have a group orientation, where I viewed their presentation of what the job entails, the salary, benefits, et cetera. After the presentation, all of us were given a Intelligence/Skills Test. After the test, I was free to leave. I was called back a week later for a one-on-one interview.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AT&T (Boardman, OH) in Feb 2012
Interview
I applied for the position online, and then was contacted via email to participate in a teleconference/phone interview with several other people. This consisted of an employee giving you a detailed presentation about the company and the position, and then stopping to ask for questions at the end and scheduling testing dates for those who remain interested.
On my scheduled date and time, I went to the call center to take the test. It was mostly questions to test your sales/customer service knowledge and experience, and also a phone simulation where you listen to a customer, enter information and select appropriate responses.
After the test, I was told that I qualified for a 1:1 interview and would be contacted to schedule a date. I was then emailed on the same day the list of potential times and asked to pick my preferred choices.
The 1:1 interview was pretty standard, and was what you'd expect. The interviewer asked the standard behavioral questions. questions about your accomplishments, :tell me about a time when" questions, etc.
It was a rather lengthy interview process. It seems that they do a good job of weeding out those who definitely will not be the right fit for the job, by giving the applicants plenty of information in the beginning and by testing to see if they're qualified.

What is your most important customer service accomplishment?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AT&T (Cerritos, CA) in Jan 2012
Interview
After passing there online assessment tests I received a phone interview within 3 hours. I was then told I will be sched. for an interview with the recruiting human resource manager for that following Monday and to dress professional. Monday came and I went to the ATT corp offices 15 minutes early. MAKE SURE TO WEAR A SUIT AND TIE!!! This is a very professional building so you need to dress for it… I was taken up to the top floor and sat in a very nice conference room with the HR Mgr. We talked for about an hour and I asked if he is looking to take me to the next level since I was getting all the right body language from him. He said he is very impressed and will contact me next week to meet with the Store Manager. If the store manager gives the thumbs up, then it’s a go. One week passed with no call. I went to the store and introduced myself to the manager who said they had no clue about me or the position I was trying to get. Tried to call the HR Mgr and got vmail. One week later I checked the ATT site and found I was rejected for the position and it is now closed. Called some old contacts in the wireless industry I worked with in another state and found out this is the norm for ATT. They only hire young and dumb and won’t be upfront with you if they are not going to hire you. My advice… Go to the store you are looking to hire before your interview and make sure the position is still available AND introduce yourself to the store manager letting them know you are going in for the interview.
