I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Align Technology in Jul 2018
Interview
I got a phone screening interview a week after I applied on online. I live in CA, but the recruiter was not in CA. I didn't get the offer, but the interviewer was nice. simple questions about me.
Interviews were in three rounds and lasted 4 weeks. I first spoke to a recruiter, then a lead developer, then had in-person interviews.
The conversation with the recruiter was standard. We talked about what I was looking for and what role they had.
Conversation with lead developer was more technical focusing around general platform knowledge and issues I have encountered in the past. There was some "gotcha" tone to the conversation, and it seemed like the developer was concerned I was over-qualified.
I was requested for an in-person. When asked to schedule I was told my choice of dates was too far out (it was about a week out). I was told I was the leading candidate and really the only one they were considering and they really needed to move quickly. In addition to my full-time job I am a contractor and have family to take care of but I prioritized this opportunity. I should not have done that.
I completed the in-person interview. It consisted of a meeting with the development team and a meeting with the quality assurance side.
For development we sat in a meeting room with a computer cast to a TV and I demonstrated creating an application from scratch to fulfill various requirements while they watched. There was a time limit and completing the assignment in the time limit was a challenge. The development team was overwhelmingly positive in-person and they remarked that people typically did not complete their assignment, as I had. Coding with people looking over your shoulder on a timer is not fun, but they seemed satisfied.
For the quality assurance team we met in a room and discussed my approach to working with people and finding errors. I explained I tried to over-communicate and work as a team. The quality assurance team was excited to bring me on-board and liked my approach.
After the interviews I followed up with thank you's and was met with no response.
Instead of the quick schedule I got radio silence for two weeks. I followed through on another role and started to finalize details. I left a voicemail letting them know I was ready to accept another offer.
When they learned another offer was on the table they re-affirmed that they were planning to hire me, informed me they had an internal referral they had to give a chance to interview, committed to hard deadlines and asked me not to formalize an offer.
My other potential employer was reasonable and I delayed with them for a second time.
They missed their own first deadline - explaining that someone left the office early who was important to the process.
They missed the second deadline they committed to without explanation. It seemed like they were making the other candidate an offer and waiting until he/she accepted to follow up with me.
Eventually they followed up to inform me I had not received an offer.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Align Technology (Amsterdam) in Jun 2018
Interview
Whole interview process took around 2 months, consists of 4 interviews.
First, it was with HR, in which they asked normal questions. Nothing special.
Second one was with the hiring manager, who was an iOS developer. He also just asked normal xcode related questions, which can vary depending upon the components you will use.(Was expecting some more architectural related questions as it was not a junior level position)
Then, I was asked to write a test project with just some simple API calls in swift.
And in last they invited me to their headquarter for an interview with the team. (which was the worst and loses my interest in working in the company). I flew from a different country just to meet with the team, and when I reached thier office, their HR person asked me to wait outside somewhere in cafe or anywhere and come in the office at the exact time in such a rude manner. And then in the team interview, instead of having some mobile mindset people, they put their web team members. Those who just know some googled questions. Their were some positive things, but, this negativity took all over the positive stuff.
