I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Jul 2012
Interview
contacted via LInkedin, proceeded to answer recruiter questions via email. About a week later a phone screen with GM for one of their facilities (he we polite, but you could tell he wanted no part of the call). Another week went by without any contact, then was invited to a site based interview. Close to 120 candidates for various roles at 4 of their sites nearby each other.
Process that day was expected having read glassdoor reviews. 4 successive interviews based on STAR formatted questions including one where you review your math problem (hint, search on glassdoor.com as the question was almost exact to one i found here). Well controlled process, kept on schedule.
Another week went by, then contact via recruiter (by this time i'd spoken with three separate recruiters) saying "not a fit for this role but what about....". Another week went by and contacted by 4th recruiter telling me i wasn't selected to a role to the Ops Manager role which i knew a week previous.
They sounded more confused than me at every turn. I can appreciate the sheer quantity of staff they are trying to onboard, but what could have been a tightly run process quickly turned into chaos. I've spoken to a total of 9 Amazon.com staff, only one of which had been there more than 1-2 years. Growth at all costs is causing them to add faster than they seem able to control.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Had me give key lessons learned on each of my roles through my career. Given the questions up to that point in the day (How have you solved X before) i didn't expect such an open ended one.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Amazon (Chennai) in Jun 2012
Interview
Profile was shortlisted by consultant. Was called in for rounds of interview on a saturday. Interesting interview sessions. Interviewers make you feel comfortable and give clear picture of their expectations all throug the interview. Keep you informed at each stage of what comes next.

Interview
Amazon called for resumes through a LinkedIn site. Once they had my resume they contacted me requesting an HR phone screening interview. Concurrently HR sent a number of email questions requesting response. Upon successful completion of the HR phone interview, they moved me forward with a phone interview with a Site Leader. Successful completion of the interview lead to an onsite hiring conference where I interviewed separately with three directors and one senior operations manager. One of the interviewers focused on a math flow problem and an essay (both of which had to be sent in prior to the onsite). Other interviewers focused on my resume and responses to behavioral interview questions.
