The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Best Buy (Flushing, NY) in Nov 2010
Interview
Started the hiring process by taking the Personality Test online. Figured out the trick to and finally got a call from Best Buy. The lady was nice and super excited to have called me. Asked availability questions and one including "What would you do if you caught a co-worker stealing from the company?", "What do you think is the best action a company should take towards theft by employees?" and "What I do in my free time?" she ended the call by giving me an appointment the following Monday.
Got to Best Buy and told an associate about my appointment. I was directed to the employee break room. There were others scheduled before and after my interview. Waited here until I was called for by the GM. I was taken to the conference room and found stacks of paper on the table. Thought the papers were there to make the room look like it was a busy place. Handing in my resume, even though I didn't need to, impressed him a lot.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Best Buy in Oct 2010
Interview
Applied online, got a phone call one or two weeks later. It consisted of a fairly informal phone interview, asking things like why I wanted to work there, previous job experiences, what customer service meant to me, availability and expected salary. Was then scheduled for an in-store 1-on-1 interview. Waited around for a long time, then had to fill out an application (the usual stuff, personal info, past jobs, references, etc.), waited again, then the interview. Lasted maybe just under 10 minutes. Asked again about work experience, what I liked about the job, why I wanted to work there. Then I got the job!

Interview
Personality test/the actual application is step 1. Step 2 you meet with floor leaders/operations. Step 3 you meet with someone big, either Operations manager, General Manager, etc. Same people from step 2 were sitting with the Operations Manager. That is when the questions began. If you know how to answer the standard interview questions, aka "what would you do if you caught someone stealing", "name a time you took control of a situation without managers looking", etc., you'll do fine. Also it helps to speak their language, its not ever just about the base product, but the value you add to the sale, and in turn, the value you give to the customer. Making sure the "attachments" are there, aka cables for printers, routers for internet, broadband service, protection plans, etc. Basically just be awake and use common sense and you will prevail.
Be patient though after the fact. At least where I applied, it took a bit to get back. But be persistent, ask when you should hear back, and if you don't, call the day after when they said they'd call and inquire. If they give you another day they'll call back, do the same thing. I don't know if it was because they were busy or something, but I didn't officially start on the sales floor till 2 weeks after.
