I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn, and the process took around 4 weeks.
The process in short is as follows:
1- HR screening.
2- Recruiting coordinator.
3- Systems and Behavioral.
4- Live code pairing.
5- Team fit
The call with a recruiter was 30 minutes, the discussion was about previous work, the job posts available, and how your profile would fit on booking.com.
Then, the profile will be considered for possible openings - if it was potentially fit they will assign you to a recruiting coordinator, the recruiting coordinator will have a short call to explain the possible openings and explain what to expect in terms of the next interviews, after that for my case I had to pick one among a couple of teams to interview with.
The technical interviews were scheduled for 2.5 hours back-to-back, 1 hour for behavior with some high-level systems design, it was very straightforward with questions around certain situations and past experiences, and I had to share my screen to draw a system diagram that I worked on previously where the interviewers ask questions for possible changes and so on.
for the live pairing code session, it was 1.5 hour, and it was a true code pairing, I never had a similar interview, where I opened a hackerrank page, that includes a question easy-to-medium level, and I had to do a TDD, the interviewer wrote the first test, and I had to write the solution, then, I wrote more tests, and update the solution code, I eventually wrote around 15 tests and updated the solution accordingly, the session was very proactive and fun, I really liked it and I think it can evaluate an actual usual business day with a team, I even enjoyed the discussion and the interview was extended for 30 minutes more.
Then, I was contacted by the recruiting coordinator to inform me that the interviews feedback was positive and I need to meet the team in a team fit call, the call took around 40 minutes, where I met with the engineering manager and another Sr engineer from the team, where more behavioral questions asked, and they explained the expectations for this role, the same day I was contacted again that I was passed and an offer was sent and I approved it.
I think the best thing about the interviews was the people I met, where I enjoyed meeting all of them from my recruiter to the engineers and the overall experience was really positive for me.
