I applied online. I interviewed at British Airways (London, England)
Interview
Applied online after which I was invited to take a timed online assessment. This involved solving a series of numerical and logical problems and customer service scenarios. If successful you will be invited to attend an assessment day at Cranebank.
The assessment day is scheduled to last for several hours but you should be done earlier than anticipated. You sign in/hand your papers in, receive your visitor badge after which you will wait in the waiting room with the other applicants (there were probably about 200 of us). Then there was a short presentation about the job and tattoo/piercing checks. If you do have a tattoo it is not a problem as long as it is not visible when wearing your uniform (they make you sign a contract promising to always wear a long shirt etc to cover it up).
We were then divided into groups and were presented with a problem which we had to solve as a team. This was followed by a 2-1 role play in which you were given a specific scenario for which you have 5 minutes to prepare for (I had a vegetarian customer who wanted to order something that wasn't on the menu but I would not be able to accommodate her). This is where you have to show off your customer service skills!
Finally, there was a 2-1 interview (why Ba? why you? Tell us about a time when you've dealt with a difficult customer etc) and another timed assessment to check if you are capable of spotting issues in the booking system/individual bookings (they provide you with practice questions before the assessment day).
I found out I got the job the next day.
Go home, relax and don't drive yourself crazy! Keep in mind that this day is not only to see if they think you are a good fit, but also for you to see if you think BA/the job is a good fit.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell us about a time you successfully worked together as a team/Tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at British Airways (Slough, Berkshire, South East England, England) in Nov 2016
Interview
Initially there was an online application form followed by an assessment. Putting yourself in different scenarios and how you would react.
There was a telephone interview which lasted 25 minutes. Questions such as how have you resolved a difficult situation.
They told me I passed at the end of the phone call and sent an email to choose the date and time of the assessment centre interview.
This lasted 2.5 hours. Was held at Holiday Inn. Lots of waiting around and about 30 candidates. They then invited us in to a room explained what the day involved and introduced British Airways as a company and what to expect in this role.
At the end we had another form to fill out with 6 questions which was timed at 7 minutes.
and they also explained the uniform requirements.
We had 5 to a table and 1 assessor. We were given laminated sheets each, which we could only read once they promoted us to. We had to act out and resolve the scenario with the assessor on a one-on-one basis as we were called to the back of the room in turn. We was also asked to read part of the instructions to check clarity in our speaking manner.
Once all candidates on the table had taken their turn, (there were 6 tables) we were handed out more laminated sheets each with a 'caption' which we had to define and pitch to the rest of the group on our table one at a time whilst being assessed.
All notes I made were collected at the end of each task.
I received a call 2 days later informing me of being successful in the assessment process.
Now there are 2 vetting stages (references, crb...) which will take about 1.5 month.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There are 2 old ladies trying to check in. A line of business class passengers is beginning to form behind them. One lady has an expired passport. you are due at the executive lounge in 5 minutes. How would you deal with this situation?
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at British Airways (Heathrow, England) in Jul 2016
Interview
After arriving at my AD in July I was welcomed by the other candidates waiting! There were some great people so it helped make me feel relaxed And enjoy myself! The first stage was the height and reach test, and me being 5"3 was worried about this. I managed to pass the section but unfortunately two of the girls I had been talking to didn't pass the reach test and the jump seat test (feet have to be flat on the floor when in the jump seat) and got sent home (one was 5"2 the other 5"3)
After a long wait we gradually got called for either the group or role play activity, I had the role play first, and I have honestly never been so shaky, I was so nervous! But I managed to keep my voice clear and didn't come out feeling too disappointed with how I done!
Next was the group activity and I was thankful that the other girls I had been out with were lovely and we all agreed on everything really well!
There was then a long wait before being split off into the ones who passed onto the interview and the ones who got sent home!
I was one of the first to be called into the interview so didn't have much time to overthink but a lot of the others had notes to look at before going in! The interview went quick and the staff were lovely and friendly!
