Pros:
• The process moved quickly, which I appreciated.
• Communication during the early stages was clear, with direct feedback and transparency about what to expect next.
Cons:
• A lot of interview steps imply a lack of trust in designers' jobs.
• Some of the feedback on my case study felt subjective and didn’t fully reflect the complexity or strategic thinking I brought to the project.
• Questions on the case study felt like they were focusing on the interviewer's perspective and not much on the sequence of the project and what actually we were trying to solve, business and user-wise.
• This was my third interaction with Deel. The first involved a salary conversation via LinkedIn that never progressed, and the second ended with an automated rejection. These repeated interactions gave the impression that there may be a disconnect around what the team is looking for in candidates.
• I was told that the next stage could include stress-style questions like whether I’d be open to working weekends. While this might be hypothetical, it raised some concerns about expectations and stakeholder mindset.
Lastly, based on feedback, I sensed a tendency to prioritize flashy metrics over meaningful outcomes, something I’ve seen more broadly in the design space and find worth questioning.
Overall, while I appreciated the team’s transparency and friendliness, the process left me unsure whether the role and expectations were fully aligned with my values and ways of working.
