I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Deel (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2023
Interview
Deel reached out to me on LinkedIn and asked if I was interested in a particular role at the company. The job description for the role was shared with me. I said that I was interested and I prepared for the interview. In the middle of the interview I was told that I was not being considered for the role we initially discussed but for another role (that paid a lot less). This caught me totally off guard. I never saw the job description for the other role, and I still don't know exactly what it entailed. I had no opportunity to prepare for a discussion about this lower-paid position — and I’m not sure I would have wanted it. On top of that, the initial role was advertised as a permanent, full-time position but I was asked if I would consider contract work. There was nothing in the job description about freelance work. I’m glad Deel didn’t offer me a job. If this is how this company treats candidates, I can only imagine what working for these people would be like.
