I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Johnson Controls in Sep 2025
Interview
Scheduled with AI (very easy). Interview was the most unprofessional that I could imagine. The initial interview was held with 2 people (one of which would be a peer, which I am all for but not as a first round) and the hiring manager swore multiple times during the interview and spent a lot of time bragging about himself and qualifications and how he wrote the job description and asked how I liked it. Any direct question about his leadership style or the role he deflected to the "peer" in the interview. Vague questions were asked and when answers were given, the question was just repeated (apparently looking for me to change my answer). I have interviewed and hired a lot of people in my career, and I firmly believe that the leader for this position probably needs an interview coaching session (but he may just end up bragging about that in his next interview).

Question 1
I wrote the job description, what did you think of it?
I applied online. I interviewed at Johnson Controls in Oct 2025
Interview
It's a useless exercise. Once you send in your resume in response to an ad, they'll send you a "chat invite" for an interview. Don't bother thinking about it, just use AI for an answer because they're using AI to screen your resume and chat response. Putting in effort is a waste your time. They probably do this for every candidate for every application submitted. It's a social experiment and manipulative. Johnson Controls puts zero effort into the process so I recommend giving them zero effort in return. This is a very poor reflection on the company and tells you how little they value their own employees.
Most frustrating use of AI that I’ve experienced (unless someone was available to click a rejection button within 45mins?). This is not about an interview, this is simply about their application process. The following happened under the course of 45mins:
1. I found the job advertisement with a link that redirected to their Workday.
2. I entered details on Workday and submitted.
3. I received a confirmation and their AI bot sent an email as well as a WhatsApp for one simple question below, which could have been part of the application form.
4. I clicked the link and answered. The question is as below.
5. I checked back on Workday and my application changed to “no longer under consideration”.
Whoever is reading this, you might like to check whether it is worth your time but I will rather spend my time elsewhere.
