I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement in Mar 2011
Interview
Applied on-line; Received call and did a phone interview within a couple of days; Invited in for on-site interview within 1 week; Interviewed with HR manager for site and the Department manager;
Questions were behavioral based - Irate customer; Difficult customer; Define time you were asked to do something you did not desire to do; Teamwork example; Multi-tasking; What to do when interrupted while doing task, etc.
Challenge I percieved - I have extensive customer service with insurance commercial/ business clients with more of the contact being over the telephone. I appeared to have some difficulties giving stories that the interviewers could relate to on the retail side. Concepts the same - i.e. listening with caring attitude to irate customer; Welcome suggestions of individuals who may have been successful with retail interviews, coming from non-retail background.

I received a call asking me if I wanted to interview for the customer service position. I interviewed the next day was asked the standard questions: Why do you want to work here? Talk about a time you dealt with an upset customer? Talk about a mistake you made....etc. I was asked if I wanted to return in a few days for a 2nd interview.
2nd interview with assistant store manager asked the same questions gave pretty much the same answers took a drug test (mouth swab). Told once results returned, about a week, would get 3rd interview with store manager.
3rd interview with store manager 3 questions: 1. tell me about your self 2. what type of work envirorment do I like and 3. why do you want to work here?
The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Phoenix, AZ) in Mar 2011
Interview
Applied for half a dozen different positions at Lowe's and received a call from their HR manager to schedule an interview within a few days. The process consisted of two interviews, the first of which was conducted by the HR manager. She gave me a printout showing the job and requirements, and asked me a few questions about my mechanical background. We then moved on to the usual half a dozen "Tell me about a time when X happened" questions, all of which were easily answered. I waited for about five minutes, and was then interviewed by an assistant store manager who asked me a series of questions nearly identical to the first.
At the end I was told they had a few more interviews to conduct, and if they were to hire me they would contact me within a week and have me come back in for the drug test and background check paperwork. Whether or not they were just blowing me off remains to be seen I suppose.
Also for whatever it's worth, both interviewers were pleasant and easy to deal with.
