The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement in Feb 2012
Interview
The manager in charge of interviewing follows more modern interview methods. He didn't even want my resume. He was interested in my previous work history but more about my personality and how well I work with customers...even though the position I applied for was shipping/receiving for overnights. Questions he asked:
Why do you want to work for Lowe's?
If I was your supervisor, what would you want from me?
How will you get to work?
What is your wage expectation?
The rest of the interview was pretty much just engaging in coversation...just BS'ing with the guy.
Since I was applying for an overnight position there was only 1 interview. While I was waiting for the interview to start one of the customer service staff asked if this was my first interview...I said yes. For day time positions I believe there is more than 1 interview needed before a job offer is granted.
He did ask if the night shift manager had my references so they do do a background check. He also asked if I would be willing to give a criminal background check.
I also attended the interview in jeans, and a dress shirt. I wore my winter jacket during the interview and even had my sunglasses over my head. Very lax and I was quite comfortable during the meeting.
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Detroit, MI) in Dec 2011
Interview
This was a promotion within the company, but at a different location. I followed up after applying and was called 10 days later for an interview. The HR Mgr. & Store manager interviewd me for about 45 minutes. Both we're pleasant. Get there early but don't expect them to be ready at the set time as the manager who is interviewing you may be busy on the floor.

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Kennesaw, GA) in Feb 2012
Interview
I was called about an online application I submitted and an interview was scheduled. During the first interview I met with two different people - the asst. store manager and then the store manager. I was asked the standard interview questions "tell me a little about yourself", and "why do you want to work at Lowes", followed by a series of "Tell me about a time when...." questions. These were scenario questions to basically show your problem solving skills as well as how you handle yourself in difficult situations. A couple of examples... "Tell me about a time when a customer was angry, how did you handle the situation", "Tell me about a time that you had to sell something, how did you go about that", Etc. The interview went fast, from start to finish I was there between 15 and 20 minutes. At the end of the interview I asked when I might hear back and I was told in about a week. It was actually only about three days later when I received a call for a 2nd interview. When I went back the 2nd time I was offered a job.
