I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Macy's (New York, NY) in Oct 2018
Interview
Very simple and easy interview process. After having applied online I got an email asking to do a phone interview with a recruiter. Basic interview stuff about why you wanted to work for the company and asking questions about past experience. After that interview I was asked to move to the next stage which was two video interviews with current managers. They both asked the same questions asking about past history, why macy's, and asking about a time you failed at something. I found during this process that it was important to ask questions and make good conversation with the interviewers.
I was then asked to move onto the next stage which was the in person interview at their headquarters in New York. They were very generous and paid for my flight, lyfts, hotel, and food expenses during the two day trip. The first day of the interview was a general meet and greet with the other interviewees and people that would be interviewing you. They gave basic information about the company, role, and what the next day would bring. After that they send you to a store to observe and take notes about what you see. The next day was more professional and they split the interviewees up into several groups. There are three interview stages. You first have to analyze a scenario with information given about the store and people that shop there and present your findings in your group. Next was a walk through of a store where the interviewer asks your group questions and make comments about what you may do to change the store or what you see that could use improving. It is very important during this stage to ask questions, make conversation, always be answering questions, and be social with the people you are with. The final part was a standard interview similar to the phone interviews from earlier. You talk to two different people one on one and fairly standard questions. Again it is important to ask as many questions as possible because they are looking for people that are engaged, outgoing, curious, and knowledgeable about Macy's. After you finish all the interviews there is a final sit down and chat with a store manager and two current EDPs. This isn't an interview and you can talk about whatever you want, for example we chatted about netflix shows. They say this part doesn't influence their decision making but I doubt it. Again be someone who stands out by always having something to contribute to the conversation, asking questions, and being engaged.
It is very important that you do research about the company. Know current events, understand the culture, and know your stuff. Overall, for me at least, great interview process.
