The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's in Oct 2009
Interview
I applied on the computer. After a few weeks they called me to schedule a phone interview. They asked me questions such as why is customer service so important to me, and wanted to make sure that I was familiar with their merchandise.
The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Macy's (Honolulu, HI) in Dec 2008
Interview
After filling out the online form, I was contacted via email to call to make an interview appointment. I made an interview appointment and interviewed with the manager that was available at the time. I feel like this person was just screening me to make sure I was a decent candidate. He asked me simple questions about myself and my jobs. Then he said the department manager of shoes would call me. Another manager called and we scheduled an appointment. This person gave me specific scenerios to respond to regarding customer service. What if you didn't know about the product. What do you do when a customer is irrate. She said I did a good job and would call with their decision. I received a third call to tell me they wanted to ask me a few more questions. I politely declined the position. Afterwards they said sorry and that they really wanted me to work in the shoe department. I did not like the run arounds and the over interviewing.

Interview
Most interviews I've been on have been a lot more difficult....standard rule of thumb is interviewee should be talking 80% of the time. I the two interviews I had the interviewers were the 80% talkers. Interview process almost seemed hapharard with established personnel not being trained to interview.
