I applied online. I interviewed at Meltwater (Singapur) in Aug 2019
Interview
Demonstrated lack of proper HR etiquette. Failed to value candidate’s time and availability as the screening was done at their convenience.
Background:
Caught me off guard and told me it will just be a quick question but it turned out to be a phone screening but I was on an undergrouns train(subway equivalent). I felt ‘almost’ criticised for being under prepared when I was not even scheduled for the phone screening, it was like a Sheng Siong lucky draw call except it was a lot less courteous and unpleasant.
Verdict:
Basic courtesy prior to a phone screening is to ask for the candidate’s availability in advance, respect our time and we will respect your time for speaking with us.
This was for a role in Singapore back in July/August 2019. I still remember after so long and I felt utterly disrespected.
The current SaaS firm I am with now, 1st round phone screening the HR Talent Acquisition Manager ARRANGED a time and called me right on the DOT of the scheduled time. This is professionalism and again, I remember that fondly till today.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
A bunch of usual phone screening questions including your background and how much do you know about the firm.
The interview process was wild. They took 7 of us in for a group interview with about 5 people leading the interview. The man who was leading the interview was on his phone for about 90% of the interview process (even when we were giving our presentations). Very disrespectful. The other man with a beard literally told the group that they are looking to hire young employees. He then tried to save himself by saying no one is over the age of 30 that works at Meltwater... YOU ARE LEGALLY NOT ALLOWED TO SAY THAT! So you won't hire anyone who is 40 is what they were saying. Very disappointed and had to pay $39 for parking. What a joke.
Oh, and that same man was talking about how he was getting lit at a club with his boss. Great professional interview..
