I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Meta in Apr 2021
Interview
Fairly typical three rounds. Phone screen with a recruiter, video chat with a few designers (app critique, past work review), virtual on-site with more designers and design managers (past work presentation, background interview, app critique, whiteboard design challenge).
Everyone I talked with at every stage was incredibly kind and thoughtful. I felt seen as a person and like the team was rooting for me.
Ultimately, I didn’t get an offer, but received feedback as to why. It may sound like a no-brainer, but being on a high-functioning product team at your current company is a VERY important element in their decision making process. Do whatever you need to do to be on a good team that actually ships work - even though much of that is beyond your role. It’s frustrating to know you’ve got the skills to be hired, but are anchored down by a low-functioning product team.

Interview
Late responses to emails, confusion about interview duration, and generally disinterested interviewer. With as large a company as this is, one would expect at least a fraction of professionalism in the process, but it seems like they are mostly relying on this huge recruiting website with loads of information, but not really using/adhering to any of it. I feel like I was just asked to do an interview so that the recruiter could earn a paycheck.

Interview
Hmm the recruiter basically ghosted after screening interview (app critique + portfolio walkthrough). She also didnt respond when I asked for a dry run before the interview.
I think the contrast comes in particularly harshly when they want you to believe they care about you, before your interview, and they promised things that they wouldn't fulfill.
