I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Northrop Grumman in Jun 2010
Interview
Manager was very pleasant during phone interview. No tough questions at all. Just a quick take on my background/resume/experience. Most of the phone interview consisted of the two managers on the conference call explaining to me the details of the project I was to be hired on, since it did not directly relate to the field of engineering I was studying
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Northrop Grumman in Aug 2010
Interview
I applied online through the company website and after that I was contacted by a one of the company's recruiters to schedule an interview with the (hiring) manager. I had a group/panel inteview that lasted for a fairly short time. I didn't hear back for a while but did receive an offer eventually!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Northrop Grumman (El Segundo, CA) in Nov 2009
Interview
Northrop Grumman hosts 2-3 large job fairs every year. An alumni from my graduate program invited me to one of the job fairs. The job fair has many groups within the company looking for candidates to work on their projects so it is in your best interest to open many important looking people since impressing them lands you interviews. Beware of functional managers performing the interviews because you're likely going to be placed on a bad project where no one wants to work. If the team lead is not present at the interview, he or she is usually a jerk and no one wants to work for him or her. That is why the functional manager is performing the interview; the functional can seem nice but place you on a horrible project desperate for people because no one is willing to deal with the team lead. This happened to me.
