I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slack in Jun 2019
Interview
I had the following:
Recruiter call
Hiring manager call
Take home case
Onsite interview
After the onsite interview, the recruiter never got back. I understand if they decided to not move forward with me but some feedback would have been appreciated as I spent time and energy into the process. This is not the type of behavior you expect from a company like Slack, especially in Bay Area.
The interactions with the hiring manager were also very passive and not welcoming at all. I don’t think I would have taken up the role even if I had made it through.
Overall impressions - maybe it was just this recruiter and hiring manager. Maybe it is a general trend in Slack. Not sure. However, mistreating potential employees is never a good idea.
Recruiter called from home, her reception was bad so she was breaking up during the call - she asked all the fundamentals about my experience, told me minimal about the role and when I asked how she liked the company, all she really said was everyone is very collaborative and she loves it here. She seemed uninterested in answering my questions and said will get back to me once she presents my profile to the hiring manager. Few weeks go by, still no reply. Unprofessional.

Question 1
Subject: A slash command to DM another user?
We're loving the direct messaging feature and think it would be great if you
added a slash command so we could start those directly from our keyboard!
Thanks
Factual Information: This option already exists. They should be able to open
a direct message with a teammate by using the /dm or /msg command.
Subject: Switching other users' usernames
For a while, there was an option where I was able to manually change the
usernames of other people that joined the team. Was this edit tool removed?
If not, what are the steps that I need to do so I can edit names as the team
owner?
Factual Information: Team owners being able to change their teammates'
usernames is a feature for teams on paid plans, but a longstanding bug
allowed a number of teams to use this feature on the Free plan. We've fixed
this error now, so this person will have to upgrade to a paid plan to regain
access to this functionality.
