I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Teradata (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2018
Interview
1. Behavioral phone interview with recruiter about the position.
- I was told that the director in this position was "selective" about who they hired. The recruiter was not responsive to any emails I sent him after this phone call.
2. Technical phone interview with one of the members of the team. I was asked to solve a single coding question.
- The person who conducted this interview would be the person that this position reported to.
3. A day of 6 onsite interviews and 1 presentation. I was provided lunch halfway through the day.
- I was asked to present for 30 min. on a project that I had worked on, and answer questions afterwards. This presentation was with the entire team. Everyone was professional and kind.
- After the presentation, I had 5 interviews with a variety of members on the team. The questions I was asked were not too difficult and not outside my comfort zone. However, I did struggle to get to answers on a few questions.
- The last interview was an unscheduled meeting with the director for an hour. In hindsight, I don't know why I agreed to it. During this last interview, we discussed the position more and I was asked a couple of questions that I struggled with. The director was occupied with their phone at times when I was solving the questions I was asked, which was upsetting. I'm not sure why this last interview was necessary either. I am happy that I at least got a few hints.
4. 2 weeks after the day of interviews, I was sent a generic email saying that I would not be receiving an offer.
- I put a lot of time and effort into preparing for the presentation they asked me to give, as well as the interviews themselves. I'm upset that I can't even get a more personal email from them as to why I was not selected for my trouble. It leaves me with the impression that if I worked for this director, my work would be underappreciated and taken for granted. Thus, I don't feel too bad about not getting this position.
