I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at The Home Depot in Feb 2013
Interview
I applied online, and some time later I received a phone call from Home Depot. I had a phone screening where he asked me about availability and asked me some "What would you do in this situation" questions. After he reviewed my answers, if offered me a job interview for the next week.
At the job interview on Thursday, she went over my application - availability, job history, etc. Then she asked me some straightforward, easy scenario questions. After, she said she'd be in contact the next week if I'm chosen for a second interview with the manager.
She said the manager pretty much goes off her recommendations and chooses who he wants to interview, so make sure to make a good first impression with the first interviewer. At the end, she said she will recommend me to the store manager.
Two days later, Saturday, I got a phone call to come in for a second interview with the store manager. Next week, Friday, I went to my interview. He didn't ask any scenario questions; all he did was go over my job history and availability. He then offered me 8.25 and sent me to the first interviewer to finish up the process.

Interview
Home Depot uses a weird computer/telephone process at first, to knock out as many candidates as possible. Then, months later, you might get a person on the phone from Atlanta, similarly knocking out candidates. Weeks later, you get called in for an in-person interview. Weeks later, you get called in for a "second interview" where you will get the offer.
I was kept waiting for over an hour for my second interview with the Store Manager. I had to leave to go to a doctor's appointment. Another interview was scheduled, and once again, the guy kept me waiting for over an hour.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They use completely stock, predictable questions for the first interview. The first interview will be by an Assistant Store Manager. These guys are generally not too bright, so they give them exact questions to read off of a piece of paper, and the ASM just summarizes and records your answers into a form.
Go to any website with stock interview questions, and practice reasonable answers to the most common and mundane questions. You'll be fine.

Interview
NEVER GOT PAST THE PHONE SCREENING. I applied for a position online. Received an email the next day to call the automated line, which I did 2 days later. (The automated line also called my voicemail the day after the email). I called it, it askes for zipcode, SSN info, asked if I can follow safety procedures, and asked if I can stoop, bend, climb..etc.. Then it transfered me to a LIVE person. They give you a brief scripted introduction about Home Depot. She said the job can be full time of 40 hrs or part time of 25 or less. Well.... The job I applied for is only 11 miles away, but would require travel (in my car) to different locations daily up to or over 30 miles. They reimburse you for mileage OVER 35 miles... and then proceeded to tell me the job pays $9.25 hr. and would I be willing to accept this. I declined. I have over 24 years of experience in this field. The offer was a joke. They basically thanked me for my time and that was it.

Question 1
I wasn't expected to hear the scripted line of what the job pays, but I guess it DID save me all the interview time and other formalities.
