I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot in Oct 2012
Interview
I read about the job posting on snagajob and completed an online application which included a skills/aptitude test. I received a call to schedule a phone screen, followed by the phone screen itself. I was then scheduled for an interview for a full-time position. At the interview it was communicated that they already had someone in mind for that position but asked me to come back for an interview for a second position. At that interview I was given the same information and asked if I was open to a third position. It was indicated that if they called me back it would be for an equal or better position. The third time I was called in, it was for a part-time service desk position which paid minimum wage to 8.00/hr. I was kept waiting 45 minutes for the third interview. I began to wonder if I was just on an approved interview list and I was being called in to complete a quota of interviews for positions they had already selected.

A case study was presented and you were expected to roleplay the sales opportunity with the interviewer.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Calgary, AB) in Nov 2012
Interview
Had a really promising phone interview with lovely woman out East. She showed and conveyed her interest, even though she was reading stock questions. I was very nervous as I had not interviewed in quite some time (as I sold a business and have been self employed since), yet she was understanding and supportive. We discussed my resume which she indicated was very good and I felt extremely confident going into the interview with the HR Manager.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The HR Manager was frustrated with me &/or my answer for the best approach to deal with a staff member who is potentially missing an up-sell as they check out the customer. I said it depends on the relationship and opportunity to involve yourself, without taking over and perhaps demotivating your staff. Worst case, I would discuss with said staff member after the customer was happily dealt with. She has the Store Manager come speak to me as I filled out the references form, which I felt went well and took as a positive sign.
I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at The Home Depot
Interview
Submitted resume directly to store, manager said he'd forward to HR. Brought in for interview at store a week later. Mostly behavioral questions and questions about my experience working in retail. Really laid back interview. Never felt pressured or rushed. Hired by the end of the week.

Question 1
How would you handle an unruly customer with a complaint you couldn't resolve because they were in the wrong? Never really had a customer like that.
