I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Waitrose
Interview
I applied online, the process takes a reasonably long time but it was relatively straightforward. I heard back in a matter of weeks and organised the date for my group assessment. It was in the evening, I got to the store and was told it had been cancelled! I was disappointed as nobody had thought to let us know, and I had to make way home again with no promise of a reschedule. Again, in a matter of weeks I had an email with an apology for the cancelled interview, and rescheduled my group interview for that upcoming weekend. The interview itself was great, quite laidback and friendly, with about 7 other young people. We had to outline the improvements we would make to a store based on a 'Secret Shopper' review, and then we had 1-1 interviews about ourselves, when we could start etc. I left feeling so positive about the job! We were told we would hear back soon, but if it reached 2 weeks and we had recieved no news, we should chase up the position with a phonecall, which I eventually did end up doing. Apparently the applications were with Human Resources, and should hear back in the following week. Well.... that was about 3 weeks ago and I have still heard absolutely nothing. I have just assumed that I should not expect to hear anything, so incredibly disappointed and confused considering the John Lewis Partnership's great reputation as an employer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I think there was a question about overcoming difficulties as part of a team?
I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Waitrose (London, England) in Apr 2014
Interview
Process:
Filled out the application online and then completed the tool test. Got an email saying I was successful and invited me to a group interview.
Group Interview:
We all one by one said our names and then we had to stand in a line. Our task was to get in order who took the quickest to the longest time to get to the interview without talking to eachother. Then the personal manager gave us an induction to what the company is about. She then explained what questions she will like us to answer in front of the group (no time restriction). The questions were: Tell me about yourself? Why Waitrose? What is your favourite meal? If you had to come as fancy dress, who will you be? We then got split into 2 groups and had to work as a team to come up with a food menu for a party in central London in 10 minutes and a name for our business. Make sure you allow others to input their ideas and if anyone is quiet, ask them what they think. Keep an eye on the time and do not dominate too much. Also make sure everyone presents to the group and is able to talk about the menu you have come up with. Most importantly just be you. At the end of the group interview we filled out a form, which was about our: measurements, availability hours to work, availability hours for training etc. The interview took 1 hour and a half.
I then got an email 3 days later saying I was successful and now waiting for another email with more detailed information.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
No difficult questions but make sure you have knowledge about food.
Applied online and was offered an interview within a week.
The interview was a group interview with around 10-15 applicants and 2 interviewers. It lasted a couple of hours and involved a couple of simple exercises. This included; individual introductions (ice breaker), a couple of teamwork exercises (looking at how you work together) and finished with an individual sales pitch of a chosen item to the rest of the group.
After the group interview, short individual interviews were conducted 1 to 1 to talk about you.
The feel to the interview was kept as friendly as possible with drinks, snacks and chocolate supplied throughout!
