I applied in-person. I interviewed at World Bank Group (Washington, DC) in Jan 2020
Interview
The process is pretty quick if you are hired as a non-paid intern. Only 1 round of interviews and they got back to me the day after with an offer letter. Pretty smooth process.

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at World Bank Group (Zagreb) in Jan 2020
Interview
Half an hour, 5 persons, structured interview, with a diverse range of questions. All questions end up on "how can you contribute to" a particular issue. Overall, a very pleasant experience. No questions on WB's agenda, projects, standards, etc. only focus on one's knowledge and experience. After the interview, there was a 1h "essay test" with "how can you contribute to several key environmental sections".
