High Independence, Low Support

Pros

As a in-store employee, you are offered a high level of independence, as well as high professional standards. The competency of employees is much higher than comparable retail employers. In-store management works on many of the same tasks associates do, increasing mutual respect between team members. The work keeps you physically fit, and a smaller team means you are more familiar with all team members. The work is generally straightforward, as ALDI is a self described "no-frills shopping experience". The healthcare is very good, and dental is offered.

Cons

Due to low levels of staffing, a large amount of responsibility is placed on individual team members-- multiple tasks must be completed, often simultaneously, and the low staff and independence means the work is very physically demanding and extremely fast paced. Everything you do is additionally timed and held to specific numerical standards. One employee may be asked to man the register, stock grocery, and be available to assist customers and address concerns, while the other coworker runs curbside orders, counts inventory, and rotates stock whenever needed. Most updates to store hardware are not outsourced, but associates are asked to complete these tasks as well-- for example, updating register modems, demolition of old sign mounts and updating for electronic signs, and physically preparing stores for remodel. This job is high-intensity and high stress. The most common reasons for quitting are too much work with too little staff, and physical injury. There is no employee discount.
