Pros

Compensation, immediate role of responsibility

Cons

High-stress, bad hours, the industry isn't exciting. The management is very militaristic. The job didn't exercise my higher intellectual skills, instead the job amounted to juggling many details simultaneously. This job will become your life. If you enjoy counting product in a subfreezing environment and dealing with rude customers go for it. I'd rather use my bachelor's degree for a higher purpose.

Pros

They pay good money (for a retail job...)

Cons

No time for anything. You're just running like a dog from your till to whatever you've been doing and than you just can't finish it because there's never enough manpower, and you know why? Because aldi is so cheap that they would rather watch you working out your soul than paying at least one extra staff member. The other funny thing is when they call you on you day off to come in as fast as you can (means max an hour....) and if you say no than they put your name in the "black book"... Not talking about sick payment... Yes, there is such thing but you're not really allowed to get sick unless you'd like to have some trouble with management.... Oh and management, they do nothing all day. They can have 30 minutes payed and 30 minutes unpayed brake but you can't. In fact, you don't even have payed brake even though it's in your contract. You HAVE to start 15 minutes before your shift (so you have to be there at least 30 minutes before your shift....) and you never finish in time, and they don't change the rota for 15 or 20 minutes.... This list could go on and on... I WOULD NEVER RECOMMAND ALDI TO ANYONE unless you want no life.

Pros

Very good pay. Paid holidays. Some of the best insurance you're going to find in the market, which is good because you will need it.

Cons

Constant empty promises. You'll be told you're being hired to run a new store in a different town, and the training has to be expedited in order for you to be ready. You'll be introduced to all staff as the manager to run said location only to find out at the end of your training that they gave it to someone else, and you're going to be their assistant. After the new store settles, you're going to be told to move in order to get your promotion within a couple months, but have to pay for the move on your own. After being in the new location for over half a year you're district manager will continue to lie to you by saying "next month you'll get your chance". It's s vicious cycle that will never end. When you bring up the conversations from the past, your DM will disavow all recollection of the conversation and yell at you. The job will eventually feel like a hostile work environment from senior management, where you feel like your job is on the line 100% of the time. Very veteran unfriendly. If you're in the reserve or national guard, you will constantly be asked if you can" skip this weekend" because the store needs your help more.
