Serious issues:
- Wage theft: It is common for store managers and deputy managers to "offer" employees unpaid leave or make them use their anual leave in case sales are down. Well-informed workers that are aware of their rights and the law don't fall for this, but young and/or uninformed (e.g. international students and recently arrived immigrants) are often coerced into giving up working hour so that the store can turn a higher profit. Beware of this practice as it is VERY common in EVERY store.
- Constant pressure to stay back well beyond your rostered hours. The pressure is immense and managers are often very intrusive as to why you can't stay more then your rostered hour even if its well beyon 9pm and you have kids waiting at home.
- Very, VERY intrusive in its employees lives. It is not unusual for questions that are utterly innapropriate to be asked regarding your personal life.
- Unrealistic expectations regarding workers speed. One is expected to meet a inhuman timeframe for most tasks.
Additional cons:
- Absuletly no work/life balance
- Long shifts and absolutely crazy hours throughout the week (e.g. expect to be rostered from 12am to 9:30pm and have a 7am-15pm shift the following day)
- Awful East-German aesthetics
- Stasi-like practices
- No discount
- An awful lot of food waste that could well be fed to employees
Altogether a terrible place to work. Yes, the salary is slightly above avarage, if they don't take it away from you for having 'negative hours' if they don't have enough shifts for you because they want a higher profitability rate.
