Cons

You must give a minimum of three weeks if you want to make changes to your rota, but they give less than 24 hours notice, if you don't do it you get treated like a criminal. Management look after their own, they have multiple prolonged breaks where they get takeaway food and treat select colleagues, but everyone else is timed by the second. Working in Langley mill you are not likely to get the job if you are not related to management, in which case you don't need any skills or qualifications. People work hard, others will just show their face and chat for 4-8 hours, but everyone is paid the same. If you are a section leader or manager you can walk around the shop and do your shopping during your shift, you can also take items off the shelf and pay for them at your convenience, if you remember to pay that is. If you are a colleague do not stand and talk ever, you must make sure you do the work load which used to be split between maybe 4 or 5 others because hours are constantly being cut. if you do arrive at work and realize you have left your name badge at home you had better be prepared to go home and retrieve it, even if is an hour commute on the bus on a bank holiday (which you have to work) but dont worry if you are close with management because your manager will just have a laugh with you about it and give you another, free of charge. You cannot expect to get a full weeks holiday if management don't prefer you, you must stagger it out throughout the year never exceeding 6 days at a time. Depending on your manager the rules vary to their liking. I would not recommend working for this company. Management are paid peanuts, and they get the job if their face fits, doesn't matter how good they are at the job, which means they do discriminate, they do favor certain colleagues and will make your life difficult if they want you to leave. At this job i was often finding myself reading up on laws because these guys have no idea what the laws are and do break them, constantly. when i tried to report issues to higher management they would advise you didn't raise a complaint as it would effect managements friendships. Once when a formal complaint was passed to a manager she read the form, which has to be processed and action must be taken, she took it read it and screwed it up in front of the poor colleague and threw it in the bin saying she would not go against another manager.

Pros

Rotor is always up to date, key colleagues feel part of the team and don't behave like a higher members of the store. Always paid on time and always the correct amount.

Cons

Night Shift: Pallets arrive at the store a mess. Takes up to 2 hours splitting up pallets into there departments before I can even start working (warehouse staff have time to separate stock for every other department apart from home and leisure which is the biggest in the store I work at). Canteen staff never fill vending machines so no food can be purchased whilst working in the night. Never enough cages on a night to put cardboard/plastic into, we use plastic 'baths' instead which we are told we can't use but it leaves is no other choice. Day shift: Lack of store phones so some customer calls may not be heard. Communication isn't great, many times I was no longer needed for a shift and no-body told me. Smoking Shelter leaks constantly as it never receives proper maintenance.
