Pros

share save and 10% discount on my shopping are two reasons I work for asda. I have hours that suit my lifestyle that I probably would not be able to get in another job. As long as you do your job and work as a team you are preety much left alone to get on with what your doing with no hassle from managers or section leaders,

Cons

the overtime is a big problem it seems to be given to same colleagues every week they are working up to 50 hours and some of us only have contracts for few hours and have to fight for overtime and the ones that get all the overtime never seem to go on checkouts even though that's what they are supposed to be working overtime for

Pros

Money was good compared to similar jobs. You were paid for the exact number of minutes you were there - if you got caught up and clocked out fifteen minutes late, they would add that, unlike many other places I have worked. Staff facilities were good. Rules about lunch breaks, holidays etc were generally followed.

Cons

Management never backed up the staff if it didn't suit them. Manager made me sell a woman Paracetemol over the legally accepted amount - I was told initially this was a fireable offence but then treated like a jobsworth when I tried to enforce it. If someone didn't turn up to relieve you, you were expected to wait until they said so, even if that meant staying an hour after your shift ended. Rules changed depending on who it suited. Again told that I must never, ever leave the till unattended - when I called a runner to fetch a replacement for a customer (something which is a huge part of their job...) I was told to stop being lazy and go get it myself, leaving till unattended for a few minutes, only to be told off by a 2nd runner on my way back for leaving. Management were also extremely clique-y and the environment was very toxic. Food hygiene rules utterly ignored - a pack of raw meat burst on my till, spilling meat juices everywhere, but once I'd cleared up the obvious evidence on the belt, I asked to wash my hands and they said not to bother, and if I was going to be really that fussy I could spray my hands with the industrial disinfectant. Training almost non-existent - shown the very basics for five minutes then made to work on a busy shift immediately. Overall the unhappiest I have ever been in a job.
