Pros

Gives you accountability for your results. Good pay and benefits

Cons

Internal politics at store manager level means that some GSMs spend more time managing their boss than they do leading their business. Badly managed employee engagement policies lead to colleagues believing that Asda is a benevolent entity rather than a business. Over reaction to KPI's on a daily basis instead of action on a consistent basis affecting the whole operation and customer experience. Satisfaction at work can be linked to how you get on with your boss. During my time I found that many are interested in what you can do for them, without any reciprocation. I found very few actual leaders amongst the GSM population. Many were managers without any leadership qualities, and several lacked the intelligence to hold a position with that level of responsibility.

Pros

1) very good development and training for aspiring managers. 2) strong values meaning you get to work with some great people in a friendly and supportive environment. 3) a great sense of accomplishment at the end of each day especially after those long and hard ones. 4) there's no better place to work over Xmas with the vibe and pressures.

Cons

1) some dictatorship styled managers around as well as incapable managers. 2) low pay when training and first sign off which makes you jealous of the overpaid externals. 3) lots of politics which is probably true for all large businesses. 4) can be very long days even if your dept is strong you have to wait for the others until you can go home.

Pros

Easy work for a good wage, much less customers during the night shift and so more time to do work, very flexible with my hours and lots of overtime available.

Cons

No increase in pay for overtime, I worked 10pm-6am and if you work after 6am then instead of pay increasing for overtime it decreases to daytime rate.
