Pros

Commute is much easier than other Boston-area biotechs.

Cons

VICIOUS company politics, especially within engineering. Stale company culture, driven by long-service staff whose only qualification is starting with the old BASF back in the 90s. No leadership, management or people skills at all! Career opportunities are not merit-based but based solely on who you know and who your friends are. Ditto with merit raises - new focus on core behaviors being used by management as a tool to reward friends and punish perceive threats regardless of actual performance. All decisions based on company politics, nobody even pretends to look at facts. Actual high performers are either actively job hunting or already left. Pay is very poor compared to other companies. Even the cafeteria food is awful and overpriced. DON'T RISK IT - avoid this place!

Pros

Pay / benefits are competitive and good bonus structure / LTI once you reach AD level. Some very smart scientists and MD’s, lots of experienced people to learn from if they will share info. Amazing program for research animals - best of all pharmas by far in treatment of research animals. Good at putting patient safety first.

Cons

Toxic bro culture. Most leadership are white men who project confidence even if they are not nearly as intelligent as they think they are. Takes waaaay longer to move up in the organization if you are a female generally and you will be held to a higher standard, doubly so if you are a minority. Also women are far more likely to be pushed out or shoved aside when they reach a certain age. Very toxic top down culture. Very hierarchical. Now that they are trying to refill the pipeline they want to increase R&D, accelerate everything while still staying flat on R&D spend and headcount which is making for an impossible situation and terrible work life balance. They don’t value high performers and there is minimal oversight of senior managers leading to some terrible managers making terrible hires / poor decisions and inadvertently gutting their departments expertise and experience. Plus poor senior managers who lack experience tend to value whoever is kissing up rather than actually contributing to company success. Whenever there are mistakes made senior managers are never held accountable - instead lower level employees are tasked with cleaning up and providing some type of explanation.

Pros

I had a manageable work load and decent pay for it. The location was convenient for me, and the majority of my coworkers were pleasant and professional. I enjoyed the amenities that were available to me, such as the cafeteria.

Cons

I was harassed by two male coworkers, as were several other women I worked with. I was discouraged by my manager from speaking to HR. When the harassment escalated to the point I could no longer stand it, I finally reported them. I was told by HR that, despite all my claims being proven, the two male coworkers would not be let go due to work need. There were no consequences for their behavior, and I was expected to continue working with them as usual. I left the job shortly thereafter.
