Pros

The compensation package is excellent and I am surrounded by very smart people. I take pride in working for a company that strives to solve some of the biggest health challenges people face and believe in AbbVie's intentions to put patients first.

Cons

I and many of my peers have become very cynical in the last 8 months about the culture of this company. HR has become way too powerful, and the intention to create our culture has backfired to the point it is corrosive. I am definitely not alone in feeling this way - there is a lot of cynicism. We all know that companies have no loyalty to employees, that is just business, yet in the old Abbott culture there was at least more respect. I feel that AbbVie is headed towards the "GE" culture of the bottom 10% are out. If that is the intention, HR should stop being so hypocritical and just state as such instead of expecting everyone to drink the Kool Aid that AbbVie cares about its employees' development. The truth is that AbbVie only cares about approximately 5% of its employees' development. Strong employees are made to feel useless simply because their managers have chosen to champion/support someone else, and we are all only as valuable as our last performance rating. The performance calibration process is disgusting to the point of almost being childish.

Pros

Opportunity to work on legendary brand, Humira Trying hard to break into competitive Oncology space Decent salaries and benefits, but not as generous as other biotechs in terms of employee contributions

Cons

Old school executive management with 1990's palatial C suite CEO is less than truthful about education, so hard to respect Lot's of internal politics Hard to foster needed culture change when former Abbott employees continue to run the show White and male dominated culture Spend obscene $ on executive offsite meetings while bleeding certain functions dry for basic business functions

Pros

Pay and benefits are decent

Cons

Leaders are clueless and don't actually abide by the values that the company preaches - complete hypocrisy. The politics are absolutely insane. If you have good ideas and speak up, be prepared to be shown the door. It doesn't matter how well you perform. Direct managers are too disconnected to have your back. The worst in the company fail up, which exacerbates the leadership issues. We're bleeding our best talent because of it. It's toxic and getting worse. Stay away! The level of disrespect you'll endure is not worth the pay and benefits. No idea how the company wins "Best Place To Work Awards." No one I know is happy here.
