My experience working for AbbVie in Operations
Pros
It's a great place to work, especially if you're assigned to the right building. The benefits are excellent, and the work/life balance is decent. If you're looking to build a long-term career and eventually retire, this is an ideal environment for that.
Cons
At AbbVie, I observed a strong aversion to risk. Many employees were more focused on building their careers and ensuring a stable path to retirement rather than embracing innovation. This led to a culture where people often isolated themselves from potential problems and risks, with little interest in pursuing new ideas. The organization had a clear preference for sticking strictly to established job roles and development paths, discouraging deviation. Attempting to challenge or change your career trajectory was often seen as a threat, which could be detrimental to one’s progression. The company's priorities were heavily influenced by budget constraints, largely due to the cyclical nature of pharmaceutical patents. Despite efforts to present a different image, the culture at AbbVie felt very corporate and traditional.
