Pros

Job security and stability since they can hardly recruit any talents.

Cons

Techology is very dated. Most people are only focusing on getting their pensions and preparing to retire. Upper management has no or very limited interests in doing science. Be prepared to play dumb to survive. Otherwise, you may find yourself backstabbed by your managers or colleagues.

Pros

They provide benefits, competitive pay in the Chicago area. Business is stable/growing so it affords job security.

Cons

Benefits and pay are NOT competitive outside of Chicago. There are large segments in CA and NJ with a competitive pharma/device job market and they are not keeping pace. Employee survey results are manipulated and then used to support “best places to work” rating. Teams with low ratings are expected to develop and implement solutions, despite the issues stemming from culture and management. This futile extra work is punishment for low ratings and employees are pushed to provide higher ratings to avoid it. Work life balance is poor, time zones and working hours are not respected. Senior Management style is stuck in the 90’s
