Based on my experience I would not recommend this company. Allianz is a strong, successful, international brand but the North America segment is pathetic and has been left in the dust. It’s simply embarrassing. Culture is awful. Management is the problem from top to bottom. We’ve all had a poor manager here and there in our careers, but at Allianz, bad managers come to pasture. They are clueless, ornery, passive, insecure, unprofessional, immature and inexperienced. They have been around for decades, as employees, then promoted into management. They have no clue how an insurance company actually works and they just keep going with the same outdated ideas and inefficiencies as before. They all talk about how great failed and unprofitable Fireman’s Fund was, and they keep wanting to bring back “Allianz family”, turning this into a very toxic and exclusive environment. The managers are all “yes” people, and if you do not conform they will shut you down and stifle you. They hate feedback even though they allege they welcome it. They will say they have open door policy and perform skip level meetings – Nope! Just keep your head down. In addition, this company does not seem to understand, that segmentation is key to running smoothly. The work you will perform is either above your station or completely below it, but you will be doing it ALL. If you raise concerns, “this is how we’ve always done it” is the standardized answer and they will treat you like you’re the a-hole. The pay is NOT commensurate with the industry or your actual job, this will be especially evident after you’ve been hired and realize what the job actually is. The managers don’t know anything and wont’ be able to help you, everything is outsourced, therefore you will learn nothing and your brain will basically atrophy. They use the excuse of “we don’t punish mistakes”, to keep around incompetent workers that they are friends with or are in the inner circle. The majority of people around will not be friendly or helpful. This was probably the most cliquey, curmudgeony company I have ever worked for. They will do nothing to alleviate this, they mostly don’t like outsiders or new hires. They will hire someone that worked here in 1980 rather than a new fresh face with new ideas. This is the only way culture won’t change and order is maintained. In addition, IT is horrific. They performed many “improvements” that were so great that by the time I left I was on my third laptop, used both Webex and Teams and had to use my personal cellphone for all calls. I silently quit after my first 3 months as I saw this was not somewhere I wanted to build a career. In short, use this as a stepping stone, get vested, then leave. Luckily your manager won’t yell at you when you put in your two weeks.
