Pros

1. Will learn some good values like customer focus. 2. Will work on some interesting problem spaces. 3. Aggressive goals help you focus on getting things done. 4. Team switching is quite easy so if you are unhappy with one team, can easily move to another.

Cons

1. Work can be too boring. Even on teams that are working on cutting edge things. Job postings heavily inflate the challenge faced by teams. 2. Technical debt, a lot of time will be spent cleaning up after bad/rushed decisions made before. 3. No real culture. In my team at least, we barely had any team building. People often ate their lunches at their desk. 4. Manager quality is a high variance and there are plenty of bad managers. 5. Virtually no perks and very high density seating. 6. Compensation is lower when compared to other similar companies. It has been higher in the last few years due to high growth, but now that the dust has settled, the compensation is not too good. 7. Oncall is the worst. Imagine being woken up at 3:00 AM in the morning to reboot a server. Automation isn't prioritized at all and often it takes months to fix/automate issues.

Pros

Good quality of work. Chance to work on products which impacts millions of people. Lots to learn from people around.

Cons

Sometimes people are not very open in sharing the knowledge and share only if that gives them visibility. Management also varies from team to team. In some teams, management is good and in some teams, lots of politics.

Pros

For people working software as developers, software managers, and program/project managers, this is a great company to work for. You are constantly getting to tackle unique and challenging problems to continue growing and improving the customer experience. Ability to grow within the the company is very high, and if you're aiming for a high level role within Amazon in the long term it is better to work your way up from within. Compensation and benefits are good in general for a tech company, but on a lower than other large tech companies like Google or Facebook. (pro and con).

Cons

Work/Life balance is heavily dependent on your team and manager. I have had no issues with it, but other teams have more pressure to deliver and skew work/life balance. Tenure at amazon is often limited. Having a job at Amazon looks great on a resume (which is pro) but as a result, many people will leave to join other companies who actively recruit Amazon employees. This can mean high turnover within teams, and that amazon benefits don't really kick in until year 2 or later.
