Pros

Learn what’s happening in cloud tech

Cons

Anyone who has stayed at Amazon longer than their first four years, eg your next manager, is likely on the sociopathic spectrum. You have to be soulless to survive and thrive here, because the company is soulless. Amazon is full of performative corporate drones that have learned to game the system and will use an array of tools to make themselves look good while diminishing your and other subordinate employees contributions. The leadership, particularly Jassy and Garman, are visionless and uninspiring. They don’t have any good growth ideas to combat competitors so they are using their monopsony power to squeeze margin out of the employee base to goose up the stock price. This adversarial approach to management has turned the South Lake Union campus into something of a gilded prison. The gleaming buildings hide an upside down world in which the least competent but most ruthless people run the show. Your work and contributions are consumed by these ruthless people to further their careers. You get to keep your paycheck, but not your dignity, as long as you’re willing to play the game.

Pros

Good salary for few roles. You have the opportunity to learn AWS Platform.

Cons

- Complexity is very high. - Most leaders/managers lack leadership skills, they just follow policies and procedures, when you challenge them, they just say it is Amazon culture... - Bureaucracy at the maximum without reason. - Toxic people all around, selfishness at the maximum. - Ethical behaviour from many people is tolerated under the title of Customer Obsession, which is by the way a big lie,, the only obsession is Jeff buy a bigger boat next year (to stay ethical). - Bias for action, is something used by you manager to blame you for any issue that you don't have nothing to do with. - Disagree and commit, is more like a fascist close that justify everyone to micro manage you. - Learn and be curious, only to be told your role is eliminated (not me at least for now). - Ownership, well, this is avoided by everyone, this is because it become a reason for anyone to give you their job and blame you afterward. Also technically you need to work 24/7 to fulfil this. - Think Big, get less salary and make Jeff boat bigger.

Pros

- Amazon Stock is distributed to you if you are level 4 or above - 4 Days On-shift generally with Day-Day-Night-Night Pattern - Free AWS learning resources and Certification discount - Night Shift Allowance - Company Medical and Insurance - A shining background with this global corporation, which will get you attracted by other IT head hunter, let you easier to change your job.

Cons

- Employee turnover rate was high, resignation rate always greater hiring rate, not enough manpower causing higher workload - No work-life balance, you even know when you need to on-call - Shift roaster is always messed up by the site lead, often needs to take extra shifts, and only gives back you "Claim Leave", which Claim leave must be assigned by the site lead and cannot be cashed out when you resign. - Salary range within the same level is unreasonably extreme. Some got 35K per month and some only for 25K - Long promotion time >> Level 3 to Level 4, average needs 3+ years >> Level 4 to Level 5 averages needs 5+ years - No opportunity for business travel if you were DCO, if it does, you only can have business travel in the greater China region, in the meantime some of the managers can have business travel around the world :) - Internal transfer is nearly impossible, as there are some hidden agendas to want you to stay in the DCO's or InfraOps team. - Inclusion diversity and equity is just a statement within this InfraOps environment - Regional managers like to discriminate against colleagues and not express their minds about why colleagues doing wrong. Thus putting pressure on colleagues. - Cluster managers always have many new ideas want to adopt, but not execute on their own and those challenges and difficulties are always pushed to a lower level, at the end the recognition is to the managers. - People managers are just focusing on expences and metrics and only will consider handling work or workplace issue if there is their own benefits. - Global company culture is ideally good but honestly cannot be adopted in the hong kong cluster
