Pros

Work on projects at global scale. Get to sometimes use cutting edge tech. Some teams and orgs offer a lot of diversity and this job favors folks who are self-motivated. You can get a lot done if you're willing to have no life. Lot of learning opportunities to level up yourself. Pay is great.

Cons

The way the teams are setup, you're ranked either in the top 50% or bottom. Raising the bar is a huge part of the game here. Instead of being happy for your teammates overworking to achieve their projects, you must be worried if you don't work on something cool as them, you can be considered least effective. The internal tooling is the worst and you'll spend most of your career debugging internal crap vs using the latest tech. So much technical debt on teams, it can be a nightmare.

Pros

Myriad of teams available at AWS that vary in "speed" and complexity. This allows an employee to find and move between teams to find something compatible with their own career goals and team interests. For most teams, work-life balance is flexible even if co-workers won't necessarily exercise that freedom

Cons

Average tenure here is short, and with AWS constantly growing, there are some growing pains related to orgs and teams losing generational knowledge regarding their services. As a new employee there is lots of AWS specific knowledge to learn that can often be overwhelming. Expect to be somewhat clueless for the first six months.

Pros

Flexible, empowering environment with clear responsibilities and promotion paths. A company of equals.

Cons

Slightly chaotic by design, need to be self-starting. Not good for passive individuals or those who want to be "led" or spoon-fed through their career.
