Pros

Best company I have ever worked for in my entire life. They really do back you all the way and make sure that every part of our lives is stable. When my uncle passed away and brother got thrown into jail they paid me in full and gave me compassionate leave as well. I had covid and was taken into a quarantine center by the government and American Express covered me in full. When it came to looking after me they really went above and beyond.

Cons

I didn’t enjoy the pressure of the job as we have to answer anything from 40 to 60 calls per day/shift and sometimes even up to a 100 calls. I started to feel a shift in my mood after talking to all these people that were of course calling in due to their financial frustration but I learnt a lot from this role. And the part I did not enjoy at all was working Night Shift. That was brutal. I also had to work my weekends and felt my days and nights were completely upside down.

Incompetent middle management. Unnecessary diversity costing talent

Pros

Good HR policies and company culture. Good work life balance. Top Management quite visionary and doing great job.

Cons

In the name of diversity, they have compromised talent. Many leaders are hiring incompetent candidates and also giving promotions to less deserving candidates on the name of diversity. That's very bad. Amex is losing good talent because of that. People who work hard and are deserving are finding a place outside the company. Salary is low as compared to other Fintech competitors. Career growth is slow. They are not promoting enough people who had been delivering the projects from long time.

Pros

Massively undervalued - I didn't realise my worth till I saw the same role I've been doing for a decade for twice the annual salary. That said I was happily at the company for 23 years, lots of opportunity to do new things

Cons

Sadly, my last leader was sexually inappropriate. I followed every step the company values tell us to and I was so disappointed in the gaslighting treatment I received, even though I had proof. After so many happy years it was deeply upsetting to see the values I bought in to were selective for leaders.
