Pros

The work life balance is unmatched. I get to work from home up to two times per week. Colleagues are for the most part smart, easy to get along with, and willing to help. I'm happy with my pay and benefits. AmEx likes to hire from within and supports moving around within the company. Talks about next steps and career projectory are not taboo...most reports can be open with their leaders about where they want to go.

Cons

Everything takes FOREVER...change is slow and hard to come by. We talk about "growth mindset" but many times it's just talk and no action. Oftentimes there are too many cooks in the kitchen and that gets frustrating. As an analyst, I'm not given enough recognition for what I do...and I do a lot. You see people getting promoted based on politics and that is discouraging.

Pros

-Great working from home policy

Cons

-Don't come to American Express, thinking that you'll be able to actually be a part of a creative marketing campaign. All messages are scrutinized by several compliance and legal groups and usually rejected for very small reasons. -The company structure is extremely hierarchical - If you play the game, suck up to your boss and speak up even if you have nothing valuable to add, you'll move up the ranks quickly -Quality of work has little to do with how you're evaluated. Your direct manager is usually not in the meetings that determine promotions and raises, therefore you're judged on how much others know about what you do (at a company of thousands of people...) -Too many cooks in the kitchen on every project destroy the original vision for most products -Pay is low compared to the competition - which leads to all of the good people jumping ship

Pros

Work flexibility...come and go as you please...WAH...as much as you want...ok pay. It's a great name to put on your resume.

Cons

Working around the clock. You basically work 24 hours a day with a break thrown in for your life. Management makes delivery promises that are based on complete fiction. Then they slave drive you to meet these unobtainable deadlines. Promotion or career advancement...don't even think about it! Basically if you don't make yourself "friendly" with a VP level executive, you will not get anywhere. It's really about who you know and who likes you more than your skills and abilities. Work life balance...oh yeah they have it....it's ALL WORK AND NO LIFE!!! Company has a chance to be really good place to be a good company but it falls short!
